St. Jude – Moving Day

Posted on November 3, 2022November 4, 2022

It was all good news today.

Last night, we had gotten back to our first night Tri-Delta since Summer had been in acute care for her rash.  Summer had been dreading this night.  Our room in Tri-Delta is a 2 queen room and she would be in complete earshot of my nighttime wheeze.   She told me that she wished there was a broom in the room when we were eating.  I asked her why… She said so she could poke me with it when I annoyed her tonight!  She was seeing the future.  I literally ate a salad, did payroll and crashed by 10 PM.  I woke up an hour later face down in my pillow with drool on my face.  I am telling you… I was overly tired from the last 3 nights in the hospital.

When the alarm went off, I got up and started packing the room… I was not waiting till our last appointment of the day to get ready to move.

Summer and I headed to St. Jude for her 5 appointments.  The first one got us in an hour early…  That was awesome since 3 in a row were in the same area…  We might get a head start on these visits.

After the first appointment, the Physical Therapist came out with Summer and said that he noticed she was bleeding a little near her mask and wanted to make sure I knew about it.  That was kind of weird, but we have noticed that the rash has lots of little red spots now that look like little bloody spots.

After the other appointments, we made a quick run to the cafe.  They were not serving chicken noodle soup and they were all out of loaded potato soup.  The soup was all Summer wanted!!!  She ate a fruit cup, some Sun Chips, and a few sips of sweet tea.  It wasn’t much… But it worked.

The last appointment of the day was with her team of nurses and Dr. Gajjar.

We sat down with Katie and she had a pretty good grasp of the rash.   They suspected an antibiotic she was using recently was having a reaction and she has been off of it for a few days now.  Let’s hope they are right.  Katie took Summer off of her walking IV machine as well.

Dr. Gajjar came in next and he was acting like he was happy to see me.  He even shook my hand.  What have you people been doing to him while I have been out???  He was very happy to hear that we were moving to Target House today.

Katie came in last and talked about Summers counts.  Her blood cells were showing great improvement over the past few days… That means her bone marrow was kicking back into gear as it should.  She did say the platelets had dropped down again, which is probably why her face was bleeding btw, and that she would likely get a transfusion of more platelets on Friday.  She also said that while Summer was feeling well, she should get out and interact with society while her counts were good.  No reason to take off the mask, but she should go out and be active.  (There’s a mound park about 35 minutes away in Arkansas for Saturday morning….  Oh boy!!!)  Oh, and eat up now…  Summer has lost 10 pounds since her rearrival here at ST. Jude.  Katie even recommended that Summer goes to Smoothie King!  Imagine that recommendation!?

We got back to Tri-Delta and packed the rest of the Sienna van for our move to Target House.  We arrived around 4:15 and went through the formalities of registration.  Our room this time is on the first floor, last time we were penthouse suite.  I was a little put off about this because I figured it means more noise from cars.  We shall see.  One giant advantage was our outside door.  I was able to pull up the van to within 20 feet or so of the door and start off-loading.  I broke a sweat because I was not messing around!!!  Another advantage is that we are the only room using the washing machine down here.  That is nice considering that we jockey for washing machines and driers as a sport around here.

Supper was supplied by Target House…  Good…  We didn’t have to leave since the cupboards are empty except for chips and Halloween candy.

I attempted to put stuff away… But once Angela got on the phone I was told in no uncertain terms not to go and start shoving stuff in cabinets around the rooms.  So, I have eased off the throttle and left her some containers to do what she will with.

I would like to high-five you folks who gave her iTunes cards.  After dinner, she was audibly cackling when she loaded her iTunes account with money from the cards.  She then went on an ap shopping spree.  Some tower defense game for 4 bucks…  And quiz game for another 4 and she was pondering Minecraft for 7.  I am telling you … She was a kid in a candy store.

Tomorrow is Friday.  We start off the day with labs at 7AM.  No time to make breakfast and I don’t have the food to cook anyway.  After that, we go back to Katie and probably get a transfusion in the med room.

Regardless of how long of a day it is…  We are out and we are free from being bed-bound.  We should have a great weekend!

So happy you are back at Target house. My class is praying for Aummer every day. Can we get the new address to send her a card?
