Aiden and Alex are with Summer this week and I have been inundated with questions about when they will get home. The weatherman is calling for a BLIZZARD on Thursday… And that will fall squarely into the timeline of Summer getting done with her treatments for the week in Memphis.
What will happen?
We have no idea!
Today, Monday, Summer had one appointment for the whole day and was with her Physical Therapist. That was an easy day.
I have also been getting lots of questions about the results from Summers lumbar puncture last week. She got the test last Thursday and the results are normally shared by the Brain Tumor clinic doctors. Tomorrow, Summer has her weekly appointment with Dr. Gajjar and his staff. He will then speak about the results. All good thoughts and mojo are accepted.
Also during this conversation, Summer will get some ideas on what Dr. Gajjar has planned for the week. Angela was asking her to get out of Memphis on Wednesday if possible… But that seems unrealistic. I cannot see him allowing Summer to remove her port and leave St. Jude on Wednesday and then not come back till the following Tuesday. There will be plenty of reasons to check her “numbers” till the end of the week and make sure she is safe for a long weekend.
Summer’s prediction is a Thursday or Friday release from St Jude and then she can head home. That is if her numbers are good enough to leave town.
Worst case… Angela and I will head south to celebrate Christmas in Memphis. Relieving the boys from their caregiving duties so they can come home.
On the positive news front… Nate is getting on a train tonight at 1AM to be in Memphis at 6:30AM. I asked Summer if she was prepared to get across town to the AMTRAC station at 6 in the morning. She told me that she was actually looking forward to it. She was going to stop and get Taco Bell breakfast!?!? I was not aware that people were running for the boarder to get some of that “living mas” Breakfast. I have not heard of anybody actually desiring a waffle taco since they were first rolled out. But if Summer will eat it… I am PRO Taco Bell breakfast. Get it!
Nate will stay with the boys and Summer and come back to Illinois with the gang once exit plans have been made.
Christmas celebrations are still in flux. If she gets home, Summer is nervous about too much exposure to random germs. Realistically, her numbers are good enough to fight off infections but from what I have seen around Central Illinois at this moment… Even healthy people are getting sick as dogs with the greatest of ease. There is a good possibility we may avoid the big group Christmas with the family and stay close to the house. The blizzard might be a good thing if it gives us an excuse to stay in.
Summer, I am confident that you will be in good hands with Nate, Alex, and your “little” brother all there to be your caretakers the rest of the week!!! Love you all.
I totally understand about the germs and all the yucky sick germs hanging around everywhere..best to be super caution…family and friends will understand and want you to stay healthy…my prayers are with you for all this and traveling mercies as well! Much love..Chris
Just a thought: With much uncertainty with Summer’s tests and the weather, might everyone Alex, Aiden, Nate, Summer you and Angela just having Christmas in Memphis. You would make the journey but everyone else would remain in Memphis and not have to risk the weather. Not really my business just was thinking about everyone’s safety. Will pray all works out the best and of course you know what is best. Merry Christmas to you all. Best regards
