I have been talking to Bill Embry off and on since we first made the account for Summers Scholarship, weeks after the funeral. Bill is one of the members of the multitudes of organizations that run charities for Mackinaw, DeeMack HS, and the Educational Fund. 
Bill and I finally found time to get Angela and other members in the same room to start nailing down some details. There wasn’t a ton of time… And we did not get the absolute details of the scholarship fleshed out… However, the community fund has agreed to let us operate Summer’s fund out of their 501 account. While this is not huge news… It adds convenience to folks who want to give while using this to save some tax money with a deduction. I totally understand.
Ang and I argued a bit about it today… She wants the fund to last 15 years minimum… I said I was ok with 10. Either way, we are in the same ballpark.
At the bottom of the page is the quick letter with details… But, we will have receipts as donations are made to the fund.
I am working on an “elevator pitch” of the who, what, and why so we can flesh out the Scholarship page.
Don is drumming in a band called Mark Boon & the Daydrinkers. The band is a bunch of excellent musicians who have been playing in the Bloomington Normal scene for decades. Rember Hip Pocket?
Summer and I made it to one of the live shows last fall and I was thrilled to let her see Don play. We had one chance eons ago in Colorado but we didn’t want to spend the night in Ridgeway for the rodeo! (We should have stayed!!)
Mark is done playing live gigs… And in celebration of this final hurrah… They have taken over the Castle Theater in Bloomington on Black Friday. The show is dedicated to a friend of Mark’s (and the band?) and he made an offer to use Summer’s name as well. We will be talking about the scholarship and hope to raise a few dollars that night.
