I really expected to be further down the road tonight! The weather was terrible today… So we had to scrub some plans for a hike… It was 39 at one point on the outside thermometer!
We started the day off swimming at the Quality Inn… Nice pool… So, I let the kids goof off for an hour or so. We then arrived at Cosmic Caverns (See the pics on the Picasa link to the left). Cosmic was pretty cool… It was the wettest cavern I have ever been in! We got dripped on constantly!
While it did seem late getting out of there at 1PM… I was still optimistic about the day… Until about 30 minutes from the cave Ang said, “Did you grab out coats?”. Cosmic is pretty adamant that you leave coats up top before going into the cave… I think they are afraid you are going to steel something. So, after a 10 minute waffling of what to do…. It was decided to head back the cave. fortunately… I found a faster route back… And it seemed like we were fine.
That was until we hit the Ouachita’s. Possibly the longest 15o miles I have ever driven! I wont even get into the part where I was running out of gas before we saw civilization again! That was just icing on the cake. We stopped a few look outs, figured out that blowing and 40 degree temps here are just like home…. And got back in the car!
SO!! Tonight we are in Hot Springs. Which looks like the poster city for the theme of the movie “Cars”. A once awesome vacation town with beautiful architecture and landmarks… Now, looking run down and forgotten! I would have loved to seen this place in its hay-day.
We are going to swim a little more in the morning (Because you cant go to a hotel and not swim! That’s the rules of vacation with these kids!), head to Hot Springs National Park. I have yet to look up what to do there.
Then we head off to Crater of the Diamonds park for do-it-yourself diamond mining. Summer is sure she will be rich when we are done… One thing is for sure… The gift shop will get me when we are done if the diamond mine does not produce!
