Today, Henderson Funeral Homes in Pekin posted the obituary for Summer.

https://www.hendersonfuneralcare.com/obituary/summer-stahl

Summer Stahl, 21, of Tremont, passed away Friday, June 23rd, 2023 at Richard L. Owen’s Hospice Home in Peoria.

Summer was born July 16, 2001, in Pekin Illinois to Eric and Angela (Robinson) Stahl.

Summer graduated from Deer Creek-Mackinaw High School in 2019 after attending St. Joseph School in Pekin.  She received the University Excellence Scholarship and was a senior at Southern Illinois University Carbondale majoring in geology.

In May 2022, Summer was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma, an aggressive brain cancer.  After initial brain surgery in Champaign, Summer went to St. Jude Memphis that June. Summer pushed through another brain surgery, proton radiation treatments, and months of chemotherapy at the Memphis campus.

All the while, she continued to pursue her college degree while spending free moments with her family, boyfriend, countless friends, and her cat, Geno.

Summer was active in 4H, Civil Air Patrol McLean County Wing, and Delavan Baptist Church.  Summer was commander of the SIUC Maroon Guard Honor Team and Treasurer for the Saluki Table Top Gaming Club.

She participated in horsemanship competitions of CMO and Endurance.  She could be found racing cars at local SCCA events.  She had a passport and was not afraid to use it.  She traveled to several countries with her family and solo. She enjoyed concerts and did not hesitate to pick up and drive to a concert across the country if it was her favorite band.  Summer was an accomplished NPS Jr Ranger.  She collected badges from National Parks whenever possible.  Her last family trip helped her gather another 19 ranger badges from Iowa to Washington.  She loved to play board games and was a “regular” at Castle Perilous in Carbondale.

Summer passed away from ongoing symptoms of cancer.  She was the bravest of warriors and never wavered in her resolve to do everything asked of her while at St. Jude.  All the while, she continued to live life and plan for the future.

Summer is survived by her parents, Eric and Angela.  Brother Aiden.  Boyfriend Nathanial Smith of Decatur.  She is the Granddaughter of Tim (Julie) Rathbun and Linda Robinson.  She was proceeded in death by her grandfathers, Don Stahl, and Donald Robinson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM Saturday, July 1, 2023 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Michael Andrejek as Celebrant. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM Friday, June 30th at Henderson Funeral Home and Crematory. Cremation will be accorded after the services with internment at a later date. The mass will be lived streamed at https://venue.streamspot.com/event/Mzk1ODU3MA==

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Summer Stahl Memorial Scholarship Fund.  Donations to St Jude in her name are also welcome.

I have already had some questions about where to send donations.  This has been a wild ride to say the least…  We are trying to keep everything in order.   We went and setup an account with First Security Bank in Mackinaw this morning.

We had a donation on the GoFundMe that was listed for the fund, so that was easy.  We have used Venmo and Paypal in the past when people started reaching out last May.  Of course, checks will be taken at the visitation, Mass, Fort’s or wherever you find a friend of ours.  Just make it out to the fund.
