The weather was a dud… But it cleared off when it mattered, and we were able to watch the Pekin Fireworks from the soccer fields on the north side of the 4H pavilions. We had brought chairs… So, sitting in wet grass was not a problem.

Whats up with “illegal in Illinois” fireworks? The Pekin Times just ran an article about busting some local “vendors” found along the roadside who were selling illegal bottle rockets.
I have one question. How do we pretend that fireworks are illegal in this state? There is a guy less than a block away from Mom’s house that launches about 1000 bucks in illegal rockets every year… Its just flat out blatant! And you see hundreds if not more random rockets blowing up all over town. NOBODY is concerned anymore! When are we going to life this pathetic law that is not even enforced?
On caveat to that rant… We made sure to tell the kids a story about a guy who blew off his fingers playing with fireworks. You know… Just to put the “fear” in them!
July 3rd we did a bike ride at a section of the I & M canal at Lasalle-Peru. Below is a picture of the GPS track. We broke a family record… 16 miles ridden by the whole family. Pretty easy for Ang and I… But I imagine that its a little tougher on Aiden and Summer… Seeing that little legs have to pedal those little bikes about twice as much as us big folks.
