Super Weekend!

Posted on February 6, 2011

Go Packers!  They better win… I don’t want to have to deal with Ang this week if they lose!

Friday night we went to Chicago and saw the Decemberists at the Riv.  I have not been there since I saw the Ramones in 1988!  Been a while!  The show was better than I could have ever dreamed.  They played all kinds of old stuff, including a full Crain Wife suite, in order.  The band screwed around and you could tell they were having fun.  You cant ask for more than that.  GREAT SHOW!  The drive home sucked…  I was hitting my “sleep wall” at 1:30.  We got home about 2:15.

Saturday we headed up to the Quad Cities for some good family entertainment… Skiing!

In years past we have taken the kids to “tube” at some ski hills in Wisconsin.  This year, the weekends have been pretty busy…  Snowstar Winter park would be ideal for us.  It was close, and we have had a ton of snow in the past few weeks.  Oh, and it was 30 degrees Saturday.  Which feels like 70 when you have suffered through January!

I did not really let the kids know… But this year… No more tubing!  It was all Skis.  We have tubed before because of the lack of skills needed.  And the cost!  But, this year… Ang bought some new Skis at Bushwacker, and we figured the kids are old enough to learn.

We got there at 2PM…  Suffered through as Aiden struggled to get up after being felled by the skis.  After 2 hours of playing on the Bunny Slope with the kids…  We had them take an hour lesson while we took off to try the big hills.  I “bit” it once.  Nothing like my epic wipeouts when younger.  Ang was a little more cautious.  After getting my bearings and doing surprisingly well…  It was time to get back to the kids.

Summer really wanted to try the big hills.  I took her down once and Ang did the same afterward.  Aiden said he wanted to go as well.  I was not really hip to that.  If he fell…  We might be out there for an hour!  But, we gave in and let him try it out.  The lessons had paid off.  The first 2 runs were pretty unspectacular.   But, after the 3rd time… He was flying down past Ang and making all look bad!  At one point, while getting in line for the lift, I said, “Wheres Aiden”?  He turned around from further up in line to point out that he was ahead of me.   COOL!

My kids, like most kids, pick up stuff a lot faster than adults!  They were rocking…  And were not ready to go when 8PM rolled around.  We did about 5 more “This is the last time” runs downhill before leaving.

The kids fell asleep in the car.

I fell asleep about 10 minutes after getting home.

I woke up sore and beat-up.  I had 2 incidents on the lift.  Once, my ass got tagged hopping off.  Second, I wiped out getting off after hitting a “rut”.  I swear I re-injured my ribs that Captain Ganja helped me break on our St. Lucia trip.  Oh, and never to be left out, my ankle reminded me this morning that it WAS broken a few years ago… And does not like playing hard!
