(Pulled from the 45 drafts in my WordPress! I tightened it up! BTW, thanks Toyota Chicago for this trip. Once in a lifetime for sure!)
At 299 Iceland Kronor, the famous Costco dog rings up at $2.30 US. It’s the cheapest meal in Iceland! Trust me, we drove over half the country and found nothing cheaper. The optional “crunchy” onions are no additional charge.
I found myself doing Kr conversion math in every isle of the big box store. I am pretty sure the Northface sweatshirts were a deal.
But it’s not all favorable. If you pick up a rotisserie chicken that is normally about 5 bucks here, a $11.78 charge will be waiting when you check your credit card statement a month later. They tell you everything is more expensive because its an island… So, how do they keep that Northface shirt such a bargain?I have since been told that this is gold is available in the East Peoria COSTCO, so I am not sure why I was finding such fascination when seeing it in Iceland. COSTCO Iceland did have the gold in a display box as opposed to the carboard display in East Peoria. Maybe that was the difference? . 50 to 500 grams of gold bars are under jewelry glass just 100 steps inside the store next to the clothing piles. (Personally, I can’t imagine walking out of Costco with a banana box full of 500gram gold bricks. Do you get an armed guard?)
