This post I really will keep short tonight. I’m already home in Tremont in bed before 10 o’clock.
Nate and I were left alone last night for the parenting duties and it was going pretty good. Summer went to bed around midnight with nothing more than Tylenol and we avoided any morphine.
Summer got a good rest until 3Am or so…. About that time, she was tinkering her hands around her bed in silence. But, as she was obviously not going back to sleep, Nate got up to be by her side.
She stated off very groggy and progressively gained consciousness. At first, she was mumbling and looking around a bit confused. Next she was picking at her phone. Soon enough, she was on Snapchat and then Wordscapes.
She was actually doing all right at the word-game all things considered.
I stayed up with her the latter half of the early morning and tried to get to sleep around 5:30. Honestly, I was ok for a while…. But I could feel the frayed edges in my mind needing lots of coffee. Fortunately, the Owens hospice overfills their coffee filters and doesn’t get a lot of traffic on the Bunn machine.
That’s a recipe for dark, chewy coffee. It’s good.
I needed it all. At least 3 cups worth to get my day rolling.
Summer had a full raft of social engagements today. It started off with Angela’s Aunt and Uncle from Iowa coming in. And ended with uncle Steve coming up from Tennessee at the end of the day.
In the middle, we had classmates, Olivia, the Fairbury family, the Durand’s, my 92 year old Grandma Ann, my dads sisters…. Jan and Candice along with countless friends tonight. Who waited as if it was a Taylor Swift standby ticket.
Summer complained a few times she was tired abs said she was closing her eyes to avoid having to talk. We all talked about it tonight and think they letting her rest till noon tomorrow might be best. Then her and her tired caregiver can be fully “reconditioned” for more guests.
So,please keep that in mind and just text us before heading out if you have concerns.
Summers has stayed pretty consistent today. When she was tired she dropped hard and I can recall that happening twice.
One of the times was outside in the pavilion. It was our first use of the outside area and it was a beautiful day for it. A couple of Summer’s friends from high school stood by with her while I thought about falling asleep on the patio furniture! Summer took the lead and had a good sleep within earshot of the waterfall. It reminded us that summer always went to sleep to thr sound of falling water.
That water noise was used in vacation a few weeks ago and I didn’t think much about it until today…. We need one for here. Dawn says she has one for their guest room they will bring by today.
Oh, we have plenty of food!!!!
You crazy people loaded us up today!!! Seriously! Max brought lunch and then about 4 care packs of groceries showed up. Stahl’s, Stegers and Scotts. Thank you! We were not prepared for hospital life outside St Jude. It’s free food at any time… so, for a minute we thought we were hungry. No longer.
The day would not have been perfect without the re-arrival of Z. Armed with youthful exuberance he made his way back from Carbondale tonight after a full day of work. He had a copilot in the form of “Kat” with him. Now, we have 2 “cats” in the basement? (See what I did there?)
It does feel odd to know those guys are down there without Summer, but it’s good to know they are here FOR Summer.
Summer is bushed…. So am I. I’ll post more Saturday.
Thank you all who came to visit Summer today. Probably traveling the farthest were my sister Aunt Shirley & Uncle Ray from Iowa and Eric’s Uncle Steve & Aunt Lisa from Tennessee…so many other family & friends. And a special thank you to Pastor Andy & Debbie who came from Delavan to pray with us. Love you all.
God Bless all those friends and family going to see Summer and support her and her family with their love. Beautiful pictures, thanks so much for sharing, everything , prayers and hugs.
