Down for the count

Written by Eric on Friday, 29 of February , 2008 at 11:56 am

I’m all laid-up at home today…  And who knows how much longer!  I busted my ankle up REAL good!

How did it happen…  Well, in a nutshell…  It was 4:45…  We had a car on the lot with a flat tire…  I was going to and get it in the shop before the guys left at 5PM.  I started taking an air tank out to the car, but then realized is was empty anyway…  So, I turned around to set it next to the building…  Thats when I slipped, heard a big pop, and hit the ground!

Guys from work transported me to the Pekin Hospital….  ER monkeyed with drugs and x-rays for 2 hours before figuring out that they could not set it…  I spent that night on hourly doses of morphine until my surgery at noon the next day.

I broke my fibula, chipped the tibia and kicked the talus (Ankle bone right under tibia and fibula) out to the side of my ankle.  They added a plate to the fibula, screwed the fibula and tibia together temporarily, and repacked in the chipped and dislocated bones.

So, I have no idea how long this is going to take…  As far as getting around normally.  Doc did not give me a walking cast… He wants me off of it for at least 2 weeks.

Did I miss anything?

Everyone has been very supportive! Thanks!

Dan and Noel brought me enough science, tech and entertainment mags that I am set up for reading for several days!

Also going on…  Summer is in floor hockey at the YMCA…  Its good for her.  She scored the first goal of the night last Monday…  A fact that she kept talking about.  She says she has a secret weapon…  They play this game at school, so it gives her an edge!

Aiden had a bad cough earlier this week….  He sounds better, but I have only seen him a few hours in the past few days…  Hopefully that will change this weekend!  He is scared of my rocking wheelchair!
