| We
owe a huge amount of the labor to Chuck
Gabbert, and Brent Doerr.
Chuck had the cabinets custom designed. They are solid Oak with a slight cherry finish. Dad did the wallpaper, and gave the upper half a fresh coat of paint. The wallpaper came from Sherwin Williams. We looked at A LOT of paper, and we knew that we needed something bold. The flooring and the countertops had washed each other out, and it was left to the light fixtures and the paper to dress things up. We still are looking for drapes over the 2 windows to the south. We picked out the island on-line at comforthouse.com The lights were purchased at KBL in Peoria. They are real stained glass! We found our tile at LeeWay tile in Peoria. The tile extends into the bathroom, and pantry. The floor was raised 1/4 inch to accommodate a concrete sub-floor. So there is a slight lip on the 2 rooms that connect to the kitchen. The dishwasher was picked up at a garage sale for 30.00. Otherwise I may still be washing dishes right now! We had originally planned to replace the old window at the back of the kitchen. Ang was furious, so Chuck said he would work it in. The cabinet to the right of the window about cost us our marriage! I am not sure why we fought so much about it... But she gave in to my instincts, and I think we are both happy with the results.
