Spring Mowing Update (Total yard geekery ahead)

Written by Eric on Wednesday, 29 of April , 2009 at 11:43 pm

I always wait till the last minute to do the  “Spring tuneup” on my Cub Cadet mower…. Every year!  I do it about 2 weeks after I should have mowed for the first time of the year.  (Kinda ironic since I work in service huh?)

This year…   I had a couple advantages working for me.  1)  Ang’s new horse trailer will fit either of my tractors…  So, getting someone to pick it up is no longer mandatory.  2) I have the Kubota tractor with the finish mower if I get truly desperate.  3) We always have a push mower if it comes down to it.

Well, I took the Cub Cadet to A-Z Rental in Pekin last Friday…  They said it would be about a week before it was done.  That was before I gave them the grocery list of things that were wrong with it besides needing the Spring Check Up.  Flat tire, blown belts, bad tensioners… ect.

Without my regular riding mower: I stated very boldly to Ang that I would just “push mow” the yard in the meantime.

Well, that thought blew out of my ears when I started doing some ditch mowing on the Kubota tractor’s rear deck mower.  I had the mower redone and fixed by my neighbor this winter in hopes that it would not leak gear lube all over the garage like it did last summer.

Well, I had low expectations… This thing can mow like a pro!

I started mowing the edges of the yard… And soon enough found myself doing everything!  It looked good!   Not great…  But very passable!

In the end… I had to edge and weedeat more than I normally would, since the deck mower cannot get nearly as close to objects as the Cub.  Wait… It can…  Its just that it will pull things out of the ground and ruin anything that gets in its path.  (Not worth the marital strife if I destroy the trellis!)

Prepping the patient

Written by Eric on Tuesday, 28 of April , 2009 at 10:51 pm

Took Aiden to the anasteciologist for a pre-surgery visit this morning.  His foot “granuloma” is back….  So, this time he goes under the knife.  We had it burned off 2 months ago… But that did not stop it.

So, Friday morning, I get to take him to surgery at Pekin Hospital for a total removal.

For anyone who does not know that term, granuloma…  Its a non cancerous cyst.  Doc thinks it might be starting from some foreign mass down deep.  Splinter or something like it.

Also, Summer has her First Communion this weekend.  She is jazzed!

As ususal… The kids lives are far more important and entertaining than the adults!

Live and learn…  I left my tractor out in the pasture last night…  and what do I find today?  A chewed up seat!  Just what I wanted to spend money on!!!  I guess I can duct tape it when it dries out?

Another anti-snoring device!

Its now my quest to keep posting these as they come across my computer.  This one is being advertised on Facebook right now.

Personally, I think this one makes you look like Jed Clampet with a toothache.  Especially if you can get it with poka dots!

Savage Nation

Written by Eric on Saturday, 18 of April , 2009 at 10:28 am

WMBD removed Michael Savage from the local airwaves… I emailed Jamie Markley about it… And he stated that it was purely a monetary decision.

I have tried to listen to the show moved into his slot… The Dave Ramsey show… Uggggh… Its like Bruce Williams with a Right Wing Christian edge.

Forget it!

On the flip-side… WLS plays Sean Hannity at the same time. Which is worse?

Now, in hindsight of this post… People who dont listen to Savage may think he is the most polarizing of the 3… But the key difference is his lack of party affiliation. He slams everyone!

Don’t mess with Texas?

Written by Eric on Wednesday, 15 of April , 2009 at 11:58 pm

Its really ironic that we were there last week!   Now they are making some news that would have seemed really screwy if I had not just been there.

It has to be the only state that flies gigantic state flags at higher elevation than the US flag!

I found it very strange at first… But after visiting a memorial in Houston (Name escapes me) and the Alamo… You get a better sense of where people from Texas are coming from.  They have a separate history of independence that most Americans and their immigrant families cant wrap their head around.  These people fought a second revolution.  They pretty much consider themselves a nation to themselves!

This view of a harder fought independence started sinking while I was talking about it with the family in Austin.

Here is the news today about Texans talking about removing themselves from the Union.

As for the rallies today…  I like the idea…  But, in my normal skeptical thoughts, had to wonder who was behind this “movement”.  Hannity was on WLS tonight cheering it on.  I hate him!  So, it just adds to my mixed emotions on it.  One thing is for sure…  I am not behind spending our way out of financial problems…   Hey Summer…  Can you and your kids pick up the tab for our reckless lifestyles?  Or…  Just keep paying the Chinese the interest we owe them on the money that paid for it!

I forgot the memory card for the camera on the day we went to downtown San Antonio…   Here is the one picture I took on the camera’s built-in memory.
