Update

Written by Eric on Monday, 31 of March , 2008 at 10:54 am

Doc said 3 more weeks as of last Thursday…  Now, at the time… I was argueing that this seemed kinda long…  But as of this weekend… I am all about kicking back!

He said I could walk on the cast, and I have been doing that… But the downside is the abuse on my hips and back.  Oh my God!!!  I have to lay prone and take meds to be able to sit for any length of time!  I had to go back to the crutches when Ang and I went out Sunday morning.

Since I have lots of time to myself…  I found this Link for the new KITH tour…  Any takers for Chicago or St. Louis???

Also, if the site does not setup right in your monitor… Like the right side is halfway down the page…  Well, get an updated browser!  Seems to work fine on Firefox and IE 7.  Not like its a big deal, but its worth mentioning in case someone thinks its broken.

Pain!

Written by Eric on Wednesday, 26 of March , 2008 at 9:30 pm

I have been trying out my tender foot for some walking without crutches since Tuesday…  First day was not much…  But I foot was throbbing by the end of the day.

Today…  I went out and fixed the antenna this afternoon (Could not take it anymore!)…  Wow…  My back, legs and ankle are in dire shape!!!  Gonna take some pills and go to bed real quick!

See the Doc tomorrow.

Easter

Written by Eric on Monday, 24 of March , 2008 at 11:57 am

Nothing like a good snow on Easter!  I swear every year its cold and miserable when the kids do the Easter Egg hunt…  But this year it had to be inside.  It was snowing…  HARD!

Mom did Easter dinner this year…  That was nice…  Since I have taken over the dining room as my bedroom.

We finished watching the entire series of Firefly last night…  Ending with the movie Serenity.  Wow…  Great stuff.  If you have not seen the show…  You need to go to the video store and watch the 16 eps.  Thats all that were made.

Go back to the doc on Thursday.  I have tried to walk a little on the foot, with the non slip boot, but its not real good.  Ang thought it would be good for me to go to Kroger on Saturday….  Well, I was fine for about 10 minutes…  But soon enough, I thought my stitches were going to bust open…  And my foot felt like a grapefruit balled up in the cast!

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

Ready for this to be over!!!!

I had a dream… Of a long post?

Written by Eric on Thursday, 20 of March , 2008 at 11:29 pm

I had a dream that I was up and walking around in my cast!  But that is not the case!  I am anxious to stop hopping around on crutches or on one foot for limited stretches!

Jeff came over the other night and we were talking while the ladies were out of the room.  He asked me if I missed going to work…  It seems like a loaded question.  Everyone should say “Heck No!”…  But, I think he knew as well as I did that staying home and doing nothing is no joy.  No, I miss going to work.  I suppose I will change that perspective once I get back to work…  But, in reality I would love to turn back time and not have to go through any of this!!!

I was thinking the other day that I will probably have a thought in the future like:  “Man, when I was off for that month I shoulda done…”  Insert anything at the end of that sentence.  Well, the fact is, I have to remember that I COULDNT DO ANYTHING FOR THAT MONTH BUT SIT…  And the first two weeks were sitting and moaning!

Dan came over and made beer on my stove this past Monday to entertain me….  It was entertaining.  I was praying that he didnt make a mess…  Ang just mopped the kitchen floor on Sunday.

Oh, I dont think I mentioned this…  We got new basement windows installed the first week I was back…  And that was fine, since one of us could be home all day for the work crew… Normally this would be a problem.  Well, one thing they failed to mention when they left…  The outside TV antenna wiring that I had piped through the basement window is now laying disconnected in the grass next to the house.  So, I HAVE ONE CHANNEL!!!!  Sometimes we get 2.  PBS and NBC on a good day.  So, not much TV viewing going on here!  Thank God for Netflix!

In case anyone is wondering what a typical day has been:

  1. Get up and wait for kids to come downstairs.
  2. Entertain them until Linda comes to pick them up.
  3. Eat breakfast while listening to Don and Roma.
  4. Read left-over Wall Street Journals that Linda brings from work.
  5. Hop on net and work on this disaster of a site, or the beer site.
  6. Listen to Glen Beck (Never really heard the guy until this time off… Hillarious and mostly agreeable with me).
  7. Check my horrible 401K’s, IRA’s, Stocks and lament that we will be broke in 6 months if this keeps up.
  8. Read about what a freak Heather Mills is.
  9. Wonder why we are participating in the Chinease Olympics when its obvious they treat people like animals over in that country.  50 years ago it would not even have been a question.
  10. Play webkinz to earn Summer money…  But I really play it because I like the games.
  11. Eat lunch.
  12. Read a book.  Read 2 since I have been laid up… Its like a record!
  13. Listen to Roe on WLS.  Hoping his Heather Mills imitation will keep me from falling asleep.  Otherwise I will never get to bed!
  14. Wait for Ang to tell me she is coming home and start prepping supper.

What a day huh???  Yeah, its that great!

Officially Updated – PlanetStahl 2.0

Written by Eric on Monday, 17 of March , 2008 at 1:55 pm

OK… Its done…  No more old Planet Stahl page.  Its not a matter of maintenance or effort.  Its more a matter of obsolete software and not wanting to shell out money, or time to learn something new!  (Well, technically, this code is new… But its kinda old as well)

Look for theme changes and updates to the format over the next week or so.  Plus, I will try and salvage some of those old webpages and pictures from the old site…  But it may be hard to do.

Back to the leg:

Went to the doc this past week.  (Disgusting part coming up) He removed my initial surgical cast.  It would not come off!!!  It was sooooo caked with blood from the surgery that he had to cut it in 5 or six passes… Then he had to yank and peel the gauze off my leg!  YUCK!!!

I tried to be a man and watch him pull out my stitches…  But, something happened to me… I got all weak and sweaty while he was pulling them out (About 8 inches worth)…  I AM A MAN…  And I was shocked that I could get queasy over something like this.  I had to lay back while he finished pulling them all out!

Now, I have a nice blue cast with some cool train drawings from Aiden…  And a nice heart from Summer.  Summer would draw on it daily if she could… Its a riot to listen to her beg to write on it.

I am still recommended to sit around and do nothing… But that is harder and harder to do… I have become bored with Webkins…  So, I have been throwing some stuff on Ebay…  But Ang now has to managed the delivery to the post office for all the boxes and envelopes.

2 Weeks

Written by Eric on Tuesday, 11 of March , 2008 at 9:49 pm

That’s how long its been since I messed myself up!  Tomorrow, I finally get to go back to the doctor for a cast swap and an update on when I can start moving around.

In the meantime…  I have been trying not to do anything…  I helped Aiden make a desert on Sunday…  And it all went fine until I went to bed…  Throbbing leg!  So, Monday and Tuesday have been keeping it up in the air, and doing nothing…  But that is hard!  How long can you sit and read, play on the net and sleep?  Well, I can do that a lot when I am WORKING and up…  But when that’s all you do… It gets boring.  Even movies are boring!  This might be the first time in my life that I like getting phone calls!  Its a nice way to blow time!

Dan came over on Monday.  I felt bad for him and Noel…  I never got out of bed…  But I think they understood.

Summer is happy for how many Webkin dollars I am making for her everyday.  I think we are close to 5000 in her warchest!  She has so much, she doesnt know how to spend it!

Hopefully tomorrow is all good news.

Update from the dining room

Written by Eric on Saturday, 8 of March , 2008 at 2:39 pm

It will be 2 weeks since the “incident” coming up this next Tuesday…  Man, I wish I could say I was ready to start walking and all that…  But thing hurts!  I spent 5 minutes on a crutch this morning and thought my leg was going to swell the cast right off the leg!

I had been trying to keep the leg up all day and avoid pain meds…  Thinking that this is the wiser way to handle pain…  Well,  2 days ago I through that idea out the window!  I now take the pain meds whenever I get the throbbing…  Its not worth the agony!  Besides, Doc game me ton of these for a reason….  Right?

I have determined you could cut off your finger…  And hold it in the air for days on end…  And it would probably feel better…  But in the end…  Meds work better than me building a tower of pillows that sway back and forth as I try to relax!

Upgraded my Netflix cue while laid up…  I dont know why…  But lots of Thai, chinese and Oriental films have been making my list.  I cant really describe it, but I am drawn in by the honor and family aspects of these cultures.  Its a nice relief from out culture of “me”.

When am I going to update the homepage?  This week probably.  I will be converting the homepage to a blog theme…  Due to the fact I can edit it from any computer and not be reliant on a program on my main PC.  Sorry Microsoft… You are losing out to freeware!

Go back to the Doc on Wednesday…  He will be removing stitches and recasting this bad-boy.  (Summer wants to sign her name to it).

Oh, and it appears that AFLAC is finally gonna pay off…  I will probably break even from all those years of paying!  The talking duck is now on my friend list (Course, I have not seen a check yet!).

Home alone – Day 2

Written by Eric on Tuesday, 4 of March , 2008 at 3:20 pm

Day one at home alone was probably the worst day I can recall!

Everyone left the house by 7AM Monday morning…  And between Floor Hockey Practice for Summer and Monday Night Library for Aiden…  Noone was home till 8PM!

Sounds great huh?  Well, at this point I have read just about as much as I want to read.  I have watched some movies…  And I am not napping for fear of being up all night.  So, what do you do???  Thats right…  Play webkinz solitaire!

Then to top it off…  I wiped out when trying to get out of the best yesterday.  Laying there on the floor calling myself a “dumb*ss” for being in too big of a hurry.

So, last night my leg was killing me.  I had gone the hole day without drugs…  But NOT the night!

Today, its better…. I have a lay of the land.  Lets see what I can do with it!
