Ang called this morning all distraught that Hershey, her number one horse in the race, was pulled today, and will likely miss the rest of the race due to an injury. He was kicked a few times by another horse on the team when they were tied up next to each other… Real sportsman like! That was a joke… The horse probably thought he was moving in on his territory!
Anyway, Ang was sad about it until she called me later today to tell me that 2 horses died on this leg of the race, and 2 riders had to be lifeflighted out! Yikes! Not sure of any details, but I’m sure its nothing really nice to hear.
On a better note: Here is a link to an article about the race. Written before todays accident.

They found a replacement key from a dealer of some sort… Very lucky! They did not miss any riding, since it was a day off.
The day before the lost key, Ang got 6th place… Today she called me… She came in 5th.
I did laundry today for the first time in 15 years… I guess I’ll have to restart the streak!

Ang called this morning… Not to tell me of anything awesome on the trip (Which she has a few times, and has ridden 200 miles to this point)… No, today they are sitting in Kansas looking for the one key to the truck! Its lost!
No dealers within 60 miles are available… Chrysler is closed on weekends (Its not our truck)… And its not on a keychain!
I would hate to be at that campsite right now!

Ang left us… For a horse!
Actually, she is headed out on her 15 day race across the soutwest. Starting in Santa Fe NM, riding 50 miles a day till she ends up in Independence MO.
Sounds like fun huh? (Yeah, me neither!) Anyway… She has been hard charging at this for the past 6 months, and its finally here. The kids and I will be suffering through dirty laundry in about a week!
Wish me luck! Oh, and I would say wish Ang luck, but she is up to the challenge!
